WELCOME TO DANDELION YOGA

Hi there, yogi! I'm Laura, a yoga teacher from East Sussex in the UK.  Yoga has really enriched my life and I am passionate about sharing this beautiful practice with others.

Yoga is a vibrant, living tradition originating from India with ancient roots and a rich history.  It has so much to offer us in the modern world and can help bring more peace and freedom to our lives and communities.

The word yoga is often translated as "union" and comes from the Sanskrit root "yuj", meaning to yoke or join together. It helps us explore a deep unity and connection within ourselves, to each other, and it's a path to liberation for all.

YOGA & ME

I was first introduced to yoga by a close family friend as a teenager in the mid ‘90s - and absolutely fell in love with it! I soon started going to classes at my local leisure centre and tried to do home practice as best I could with the help of a couple of books (back in the pre-YouTube days...)

In my 20s, I continued to practice yoga off and on, but really came back to it in my 30s. I started attending classes regularly again and was delighted when my small home town got its very own yoga studio in 2017.

Yoga gives me something new to learn every day - about the practice itself, about our beautiful world, and about myself.  It has also helped me through periods of poor mental health, in particular anxiety and low self-esteem. It has brought me a sense of contentment and freedom like nothing else. It has helped me through tricky times, nurtured me, and given me strength.

TEACHING & LEARNING

In 2019, I began my 200hr  yoga teacher training (YTT) with the Unity School. This was the first step on a new and amazing journey for me. YTT is about personal development as much as it is about learning how to teach a class, and I grew and changed in so many ways during my training.  It was an emotional rollercoaster at times, but one filled with support, love, and discovery.

I completed my training in September 2020 and now teach regular weekly classes, as well as offering private lessons and coaching. My style is based on Unity Yoga, which is a deep and meditative practice, and my classes flow through seated meditation, asana, pranayama and savasana. I place a strong emphasis on mindful movement, moving inwards and self-enquiry, and being with oneself in a sense of loving kindness.

Yoga is a rich world of wonder and learning. I am a life-long student as well as a teacher and I'm excited to see where my journey takes me next. I am particularly keen to explore my interests in the therapeutic application of yoga, anatomy, Yin Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and kirtan.
